This section is on functions, their roles, their graphs, and we introduce the Library of Functions

By the end of this section students should be able to:
  • Explain/Identify what makes a relationship a function (S1.3).
  • Identify the domain, codomain, and range, of a relation/function (S1.1, 1.5, 1.8)
  • Express a set using set builder notation (S1.10)
  • Identify some special sets via their commonly used mathematical symbols (S1.10)
  • Identify/interpret the domain, codomain, and/or range of a relation/function in a real-world setting (S1.5)
  • Convert between colloquial description of a function/relation and the corresponding mathematical notation (S1.12)
  • Parse commonly used function shorthand/notation correctly (S1.14)
  • Identify the domain/codomain of a sequence of functions that are being composed (S1.16)
  • Identify when a function composition is ill-defined due to domain/codomain incompatibility (S1.16)
  • Identify the inherent strengths and weakness of graphical representation of relations/data (S2.3, S2.4)
  • Describe the difference between precision and accuracy (S2.4)
